You guys always have all the right answers  so I figured I'd ask this question.
I have some costume jewelry that I recently got from an estate. It's been packed away for some time now and has a dirty film on it and the smell of mothballs. What's the best way to clean it and get the icky smell out? It's a little combination of stuff - rhinestones, plastic beads, pearls (not sure if they are real or not - probably not) and metal. Should I soak it in something and, if so, what would be safe? I don't want any of the strings to weaken and break. It's not valuable at all, I just like the vintage look to it and will probably wear from time to time.
Thanks for your help!
