Being a new member on the block. What or where do you guys like to hang out around the resort when not at the parks? What is entertaining? Is the dining worth staying around the resort for? At either place BCV or VWL. Bring on the suggestions and comments.
Thanks
Chris
PS- Thanks to you guys for the posts, replies and pm's for helping us all make informed choices!

First, WELCOME HOME!!! There is so much to do around both of these resorts. BCV you areright on the Boardwalk so at night just stroll the Boardwalk. Always something going on at night or theres the ESPN Club, Big River Grill, Cape May Buffet or the Yachtsman. Plus Epcot right aounrd the corner!!

Ditto, welcome home! As already stated BCV are near the Boardwalk- tons of dining and entertainment options there. V@WL- they are more secluded but there is plenty to do. You can rent a bike or watermouse, or take the boat over to the Contemporary and hop pn the monorail. Both are great resorts. I believe you can head over to Ft. Wilderness from V@WL as well. There's horseback riding, more biking, etc.

Also at VWL you have Artist Pointe and Whispering Canyon Restaurants. They also have a pretty decent cafeteria for breakfast and lunch items - name skips the mind. My DD's loved the beach area - you can't go in the water but just being on the beach was fun! There are so many things to do at both of these resorts - we could go on for pages with different things. The 2 DD's now claim VWL their favorite resort, they haven't stayed at BCV yet! Also the Valet service at VWL was the best, we were there for 5 days and by the 2nd afternoon they knew us by name, would see us coming and go and get our car - they were all great! If you have something specific you want to know about either of these resorts ask I'm sure someone will answer it!!

Thanks, with a couple of youg kids 2+5 in tow we don't want to have to run all over the place to find some chow w/entertainment, if it is already in the 'neighborhood'.
Keep the info coming,
Chris

If the Poly is the only place you have stayed on property so far- then you are in for a treat! The Poly is a nice resort, but we prefer both the VWL and the BCV over it any day!

Over at the Beach Club you have the BEST pool on property- no question! Stormalong Bay is a mini-water park and a fabulous reason to hang around the resort for a day.
Beaches & Cream and Hurricane Hanna's are 2 great casual spots to grab some food right near the pool.
There is also a very nice quiet pool at the Villas.
The Beach Club Marketplace (aka the gift shop) also has a mini food market in the back. In addition to grocery items for your villa, you can get gelatto, hot breakfast items, bakery goods, and sandwiches and more for lunch/dinner.
Cape May Cafe has a great character breakfast buffet and a Clam Bake dinner buffet every day.
As was already mentioned- you are right across the Lake from the Boardwalk. Just spend an evening strolling around, watching the nighttime entertainers, enjoying the sights and sounds, etc.
And, you are literally a 5 minute walk from Epcot!

Over at the Wilderness Lodge there lots to be seen. What a gorgeous place to walk in to. Your mouths will drop open as you walk in the door! The main lobby area has Whispering Canyon and Artist Point restaurants. Ask at the front desk for the Hidden Mickey Challenge which will take you all through the resort searching for Mickey!
I believe every afternoon they have someone come to the lobby to do a story or bring in a small animal for the kids. Ask at the front desk for a schedule.
They also have tours of the Lodge every day.
Roaring Forks is their CS place- open for all meals.
The pool is fun, and the geyser goes off throughout the day.
Take the boat over to Fort Wilderness for a meal or to see the petting zoo or the MK horses.
You can rent water mice from either resort marina.

With the exception of World Showcase restaurants, we find resort dining to be much better than in park dining. So enjoy the restaurants at your resort, but remember you can visit any resort for dining or just to look around.

So- you will not run out of things to do. In fact, we have often wondered if we would like to just spend a vacation at either of these resorts and not go into the parks. We know there is plenty to keep us occupied, but we haven't done it yet! ;)

You are killing me.........Could you have some disparaging things to say next time....How am we supposed to wait patiently now for our first trips home when it sounds like EDEN?
Thanks
Chris

Thanks guys,
Next question hope I don't need to start a new thread.
What about 'Take Out' or 'To Go' for lunch or dinners at the VWL/BCV restaurants. I don't mean the usual burger or fried whatever.. Real food.
Thanks for the heads up,
Chris

For me it's the Beach Club. Directly around, you have StormAlong Bay, HUGE pool with a sandy bottom and a large pirate ship water slide. Beaches and Cream for amazing ice cream treats and/or some fast food. Cape MAy Cafe for a really good character breakfast ( and decent evening buffet ). And of course, Art the greeter!

But then, just walk a few minutes and you can be at Epcot in 5 minutes. Or take a boat to MGM ( you can also walk there in about 20 minutes ). You can also take a short walk around the lake to the boardwalk and visit Big River Grille and Brew Works, a very good little brewpub ( family friendly with good food ) and try some wonderful handcrafted beers. Or pop into Jellyrolls in the evening for the duelling piano shows. If you're a sports fan ( we're not, but if you are ) you can also visit the ESPN club.

I'll tell you though, being SO close to Epcot is just *amazing*. Even if it's not an "Epcot day" you can take advantage of your park hopper feature and visit restaurants from "around the world" at any given time. Plus the fact that Epcot is often open later than other parks is nice. You can monorail/bus directly to the Epcot entrance after whatever park, spend the rest of the evening there ( maybe grab a bite ) and you just pop out the International gateway at the end and you're right near your hotel.

Can you tell that I love it? :number1:

Most of what has been mentioned above covers the resorts. You're staying at two of Disney's best!!!

The WL resort is the best themed resort in WDW. Good dining, good recreation, relaxing, good (albeit small) pool, close to FW and all their options - as well as the CR and monorail resorts.

The BC is our favorite of all - location!!! The pool is loads of fun - stick to the YC side of SAB for your young kids. It's a huge pool which is very shallow and has a sandbar in the middle for the kids to build castles on.
You can walk to the BW or into WS at EPCOT for even more dining options.

There's so much to do down there at those two places, you don't need the parks every day! Have a load of fun! :mickey:

I think those two resorts have the best dining of all. Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness is a hoot. Especially with kids. Artist Point and the Yachtsman are both exellent.
