May 1, 1948 – Walt Disney Productions granted the rights to University of Oregon to use Donald Duck as its official mascot and insignia.
May 1, 1957 – The Disney TV show “Yellowstone Story/Bear Country” was released.
May 1, 1977 - The “Empress Lilly “opened and was christened by Lillian Disney at the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village. It closed for an extensive rehab on Apr. 22, 1995 and then reopened May 10, 1995 as Fulton’s Crab House.
May 1, 1982 – The Disney animated TV show “A Disney Vacation” aired.
May 1, 1983 – Card Walker stepped down as chairman of Disney, turning the job over to Ray Watson.
May 1, 1985 – The film-making team of Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker, signed a 2-year deal with Disney, to begin work on the film, “Ruthless People.”
May 1, 1988 – Disney’s part-1 of its 2-part TV movie “Splash, Too” aired, and was the first motion picture to be filmed at Disney-MGM Studios in WDW. (Part-2 aired May 8, 1988)
May 1, 1989 – Disney’s 9-minute short “Back to Neverland,” featuring Walter Cronkite and Robin Williams, was released at the Animation Studios.
May 1, 1989 – The Disney Channel aired the episode of MMC, “Today is Music Day!”
May 1, 1989 – “Largely New York” opened at the St. James Theatre in N.Y.C. Among the show’s producers is The Walt Disney Studios. (It would run for 144 performances)
May 1, 1989 – Disney’s Pleasure Island and Disney MGM-Studios officially opened at WDW.
