Parking at contemporary, walking to MK

Hey, does anyone know if you can just park at the Cotemporary Resort, and then take the walkway to MK? My husband can't stand taking the monorail or the ferry. Last year we had ADR's at Chef Mickey's, and saw lots of people walking. This year we have ADR's at Concourse Steakhouse. We would like to park there early, walk to the park, and then walk back for our dinner at 7:00. Can we do this? When we parked last year, the guard merely looked at our room key/pass, heard we were dining and absently pointed us to the general area in which to park.

You're not supposed to be able to. If you're not a guest of the Contemporary, you're supposed to only get a pass for a couple hours (3 maybe?). When I drove there to eat at Chef Mickey's in '05, my PS was on a list at the guard shack, and I got a parking pass so we would have time to eat.

I don't know if you can or not I never really thought about it. But I would assume just as you said you would have to tell the guard why you were there and I thought they would give you a piece of paper stating the time you arrived. I don't know how well they inforce it but if they noticed your car was there too long it may cause a problem.

On the other hand if he doesn't like riding the monorail or the ferry there's always the option of parking in the MK parking lot and taking a ride on the parking lot trams. Also you could catch a Disney bus from a Disney resort if you were staying on property.

I'm sure someone will be along with a better answer that what I provided but I figured I'd give the best input I could.

The trams don't go to MK.
They only go to TTC, which then requires a trip on the monorail or ferry.

Its possible to park at Contemporary with VALET parking. It'll cost more than parking at MK lot, but they usually don't mind if you leave your car there and walk to MK.

Parking at the Contemporary is reserved for those guests staying at the Contemporary and for those visiting for dining/shopping. It's NOT meant as a more convenient parking area for MK.

Guests visiting the resort have three hours with which to complete their visit. At that time they are expected to move their cars or risk having them towed.

The first time we ate at Chef Mickey's for breakfast we parked at the CR but then moved the car to the TTC afterwards. It was inconvenient, but I assumed that the CR would not look highly on people trying to park there and walk to the MK. I figured if it was possible, then a lot more people than me would be doing it. The next trip we just parked at the TTC then took the monorail over to CR for breakfast and later rode it back to the MK.

Sorry to disagree with you,but you can park at the CR,GF,or Poly,and as long as it isn't a holiday or a special event,it is not a problem.I haven't parked in the Mk parking lot for at least 20 years now. We go to the CR,go to the gate ,and ask if you can self -park.If the guards tell you that there is no space,then ask if you can valet park. You can pay the daily fee,$6.00,I think, and leave your car there all day.I have done it literally dozens of times,w/o a hassle.If it is a holiday or special event,you might want to make an ADR beforehand,and they can look up the number to let you in.Normally,the guards are very friendly and cooperative about doing it this way.:mickey:

We are usually given a temporary guest pass good for about three hours when we eat at Chef Mickeys. We have never parked there that we were not given a time limit.

We'll have to agree to disagree... I've actually been stopped on the walking path TO MK by the gate guard telling us we couldn't park at CR and visit MK. After I explained that we didn't park, we had just gotten off a bus he let us continue.

Parking at the resorts IS NOT allowed for trips to the parks, otherwise they wouldn't have spend all the money to pave the main MK parking lot to the extent they did nor would they have spent the money on the two ferry's they have and the express monorail line. The Poly, CR, and GF (as well as all the other resorts) have parking lots sized for the number of rooms available at the resorts.

The rules are that you are suppose to only park at the resort while staying there or while eating there and not as an alternative to the park. While you may "get away" with it that still doesn't make breaking the rules right.

please do not park at the resorts when you are not staying there- people are paying upwards of $200 a night for the privelege of being that close to MK. when i actually was a guest at that resort it was still difficult to find a space. there is only so much parking. thats why there is the TTC, for those going only to the park.
also, when ive gone to poly or contemporary for a meal, they give you a pass for the time you are there(i think its up to 3 hours). do they tow you if you go over? i dont know, but i know they do patrol the lots, and i wouldnt want to risk it

You may be able to get away with it....but the fact of the matter is...you're not supposed to do it. Even with an ADR you're not supposed to leave your car there all day. Don't even get me started on making an ADR and not using it and preventing someone else from getting in if you don't plan on using it.

Just because you can get away with doesn't make it right.

I think the OP is out of luck and her husband is either going to have to put up with the monorail or the ferry...or take the bus from your resort and not use the car.

We've also been told by CMs that you cannot park at CR just for convenience of walking to MK. The CR parking is for guests, shoppers, and diners. They are probably even stricter with parking now with all the construction at CR. In talking with other folks, it sounds like CR and BC are the strictest with their monitoring of parking due to people wanting to park for easy exiting after a day at MK or after Illuminations at EPCOT. I'd recommend you try the bus.

All of the monorail hotels are strict about their parking rules. The lots aren't that big and if they allowed general parking there wouldn't be room for the guests who are staying at the hotel. That's one of the reasons that the Poly now has guards on constantly now when they weren't there in the early 90's.

We have never done this at the CR but we have parked at the Boardwalk to eat ( without reservations) and shop then spend the evening in Epcot's World showcase. We do it this way every year without a time limit. But, we do spend a good amount of money at the Boardwalk. And the Boardwalk is meant for the entertainment of all guests where CR is not the same in that aspect! So, I am sure it is not a problem to park for a long period of time. And the Boardwalk has a huge parking lot just for non guests to visit. If you try it, let us all know how it works out for you.

The BoardWalk is the exception - as they have after hours entertainment.

You cannot park at the resort to simply gain access to the Magic Kingdom. Those are the rules. INTERCOT abides by all of the same rules as Disney and does not allow discussions otherwise.

Since it's not up for opinion and the question has been asked and answered it's not necessary to cause debate.
