As you might guess, we don't get a heck of a lot of wildlife in our yard, other than the common squirrel and the occassional bunny - so, we were a little surprised today to see that two ducks decided to make the cover of our pool a temporary home! I went to take a picture of them to show Conor later, in case they are gone when he gets home - and just as I went to snap it, a certain black Lab decided to be nosey.....the picture just made Mike and I laugh so I thought I would share! You can see it here

Molly spots the ducks... (http://jmcmurray.smugmug.com/gallery/2657298/1/140562777/Large)

I was a little worried that Molly might try to jump on the pool to get to them, but everytime they ruffle their feathers, she runs away! :D

The ducks are still there! They were gone by the time Conor got home from school - so, while he loved the pictures, he was very disappointed not to see them. But, to our total suprise, we look out the window this morning and there is Molly on the grass, with a duck on either side of her! I could not believe she was just standing there, next to the ducks! Of course, by the time I grabbed a camera, Daisy was in the pool and Donald had disappeared. I put the camera down, looked out the window again, and saw Molly sniffing around the pool - just then, Donald flew right over her head, feathers flapping, and scared the living daylights out of her - Molly "ducked" (pun intended! :D ) like someone just told her to hit the ground! Now Donald and Daisy are snoozing in the pool and Molly is keeping her distance! So much for her hunting skills! :funny:

Very cute picture Jen. The last two Springs we have had a pair of mallards float around on our pool cover. They then went on to lay a nest of eggs in one of our bushes by the pool. Drove our dogs nuts. But it was so much fun to watch the day the ducklings hatch out. Mama takes them out on the pool cover and they practice swimming all in a line for a couple hours. Then they all head out somewhere out behind our property. So sad this year, as only the male duck has appeared. I think they are birds that mate for life so we are wondering if something happened to our lady duck.
