Dining Plan

With the current prices of meals, I'm trying to decide whether to get the dining plan. It looks like O'Hana is around $55 per person now. I noticed that tier 1 at the Hoop Dee Doo not longer takes plan credits. Maybe it was a mistake on a website? Has anyone been recently that can tell me how you thought the prices were at buffets/popular restaurants?

It also includes 1 drink up to $15 so factor that in on your numbers.

That's an alcoholic drink, yes? I did have a question on that. Since my daughter is not 21, can I get the alcoholic drink off her plan or no?

The drink included in the dining plan is an alcoholic drink or a signature drink (like a milkshake). There is not two seperate dining plans with/without alcohol. You'll need to pay for it.

Similarly, you get an alcoholic drink with your quick service meal as well, but if a place doesn't serve alcohol, like at Magic Kingdom, you don't get to save that for a different time. You need to order that drink with the rest of the meal.

Be careful when contemplating getting the dining plan. It rarely saves you money unless you plan on having all your meals at buffets and character meals, or there are several children under 10 in your party. You need to seriously crunch the numbers, taking into account how long you'll be there and the eating habits of the folks in your party.

Most people actually spend more on food when they purchase the dining plan than they would if they just paid out of pocket for what they want.

Disney hypes and promotes the Dining Plans heavily. Not because they are a good deal for the guest. The Dining Plans are a huge moneymaker for Disney.

As far as you getting the alcoholic drink from your not 21 year old daughter, no. That's not allowed. You can probably get away with it at a counter service place - they'll let an adult (over 21) pick up 2 alcoholic drinks when ordering 2 or more meals. Table service, they will card everyone who orders a drink.

Thanks Steve. We are planning on doing buffets/character meals. I've seen somewhere the pricing for them and it looks like its about and average of $55 or a little more. I actually think we would break just about even (with snacks and counter service included). Does anyone know if it's one or two alcoholic drinks per day -- one with counter service and one with table meal? I don't usually drink but if it's included, why not!

It’s one with counter service and one with table service - as long as they sell alcohol at the restaurant.

Dining plans value tends to depend on the individual. If you are planning on doing mostly buffets and character meals you should come out ahead, as long as you also use your snack credit and Counter service credit.

Personally, the last time I used the DDP, I felt like all I was doing was eating.
